LinkedIn Post Character Limit: 3,000 and the See More Fold

The character limit for a LinkedIn post is 3,000 characters, and then LinkedIn hides most of it behind “see more”. This guide covers both numbers, the headline limit, and how to write for the fold.

LinkedIn post character limit in 2026 and the maximum

The LinkedIn post maximum character limit is 3,000, checked on 4 October 2026. LinkedIn can change it, so look at the composer if you read this later. Spaces and line breaks count.

LinkedIn headline character limit

The LinkedIn headline under your name allows 220 characters. Only the first part shows in comments and search results, so put the words that matter first.

1. The ceiling: 3,000 characters

LinkedIn refuses a post over 3,000 characters. Dripost counts as you write, with emoji as one character and links as typed, and stops a post over the limit before scheduling, with how far over it is.

2. The fold: about 210 characters or three lines

In the feed LinkedIn shows about the first 210 characters, or three lines, then “…see more”. A line break early on brings the fold sooner. Dripost’s LinkedIn preview draws that line where it will fall.

3. Write the first line last

Get the whole post down, then rewrite the opening so it stands alone: a claim, a number from your own work, or a question. The preview shows whether it fits before the fold.

4. Use white space

Short paragraphs with blank lines between them read better on a phone. Remember that every line break before the third line pulls the fold up.

5. The same post on other platforms

A LinkedIn-length post is far over X’s 280 and Threads’ 500 per post. In Dripost each platform has its own tab: trim X to one line, and let Threads chain the rest as replies.

6. Count before you schedule

The free LinkedIn character counter on Dripost counts the same way in your browser, without an account, if you write outside the composer.

Hashtags and mentions

Hashtags and @mentions count toward the 3,000 like any other text. A few relevant hashtags at the end keep the opening clean; the preview shows them highlighted the way the feed does.

    Questions

What is the LinkedIn character limit?

    3,000 characters for a post.

How many characters show before “see more”?

About 210, or three lines, whichever comes first.

    Do spaces count?

Yes, spaces and line breaks count toward the limit.

Is a long LinkedIn post worth writing?

It can be, if the part above the fold earns the click. Long posts give room for a real example; short ones are quicker to read. Let the idea decide, not the limit.
