Schedule LinkedIn Posts: How to Do It Step by Step

You can schedule LinkedIn posts in advance, which lets you write when you are fresh and post when people are reading. LinkedIn rewards a strong opening line, and this guide shows how to schedule LinkedIn posts step by step.

How to post on LinkedIn, and how to schedule it

To post on LinkedIn, you write in the box at the top of your feed, add a photo or video and press Post. To schedule it with Dripost, connect your profile once, write the post in Dripost, and pick the time instead of posting now.

1. Connect your profile

In Dripost, open Channels and add LinkedIn. You allow posting for you and reading your name, nothing else. Dripost posts to your personal profile.

Dripost is free to start: every account gets 14 days of Pro with no card, then a Free plan you can keep.

2. Write the post

Up to 3,000 characters. LinkedIn shows about the first 210 characters or three lines before “see more”; the preview marks that line so your opening does the work.

3. Add photos or a video

Attach up to 9 photos or one video. LinkedIn only lets partner apps post comments, so Dripost can’t add a first comment there: keep the link or hashtags in the post itself.

4. Pick a time

Choose a day and time, or use a weekly slot. See the best time to post on LinkedIn for when your readers are likely online.

5. Check it went live

You get the link to the live post. If LinkedIn refuses it, for example because the connection expired, you get an email saying why and can retry with one tap.

How to add a link to a LinkedIn post

Links on LinkedIn get a lot of advice, most of it about hiding them in the comments. With a scheduler the choice is simpler: the link goes in the post, placed with care.

Put the link in the post text. Paste the full address, https included, into the LinkedIn tab. It counts toward the 3,000 characters as the letters you typed, and Dripost sends the text as written. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Why not the first comment?. A first comment on LinkedIn needs LinkedIn’s partner-only comment access, which Dripost doesn’t have, so Dripost can’t add one. That is why this guide keeps the link in the post; if you prefer the comment, add it yourself on LinkedIn once the post is live.

Earn the click above the fold. Only about the first 210 characters or three lines show before “see more”. Use them for the reason to click, then put the link after the reader already cares, lower in the post.

LinkedIn post approval: sign-off before posts go live

When someone else writes in your name on LinkedIn, you want to read every word before it goes out. Approvals make that the default, not a favour.

Connect the profile the posts are for. The person whose profile it is connects LinkedIn in Channels, in the workspace or client you share. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Make posts wait. In Settings, then Clients, set that client to “Posts wait for a yes”, or use the Approvals section on the Team screen. The rule applies to posts written by members other than owners and admins.

Write and send for approval. The writer drafts the post, adds images if any, and presses Send for approval. It waits in Approvals with its chosen time, and the approver gets a notice.

How to auto post to LinkedIn on a schedule

Posting on LinkedIn a few mornings a week is a habit that pays off, and a queue keeps the habit going even in the weeks you’re busy.

Connect your profile. Add LinkedIn in Channels and allow posting. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Choose your posting times. Under Posts, then Posting times, add weekly slots for LinkedIn, such as Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 8:30 AM. They show on your own clock.

Write a batch. Set aside an hour, write three or four posts, and press Add to queue on each. They fill the next free LinkedIn times in order. A CSV import works for a month at a time.

How to bulk schedule LinkedIn posts

Thought-leadership posts are easier to write in one focused session than one a day. Write them as rows in a sheet, then import the lot as scheduled LinkedIn posts.

Connect your profile. Add LinkedIn under Channels. You allow Dripost to post for you and to read your name, nothing else. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Write the posts as rows. Put each post in its own row, with columns for the text, date, time and platforms. LinkedIn takes up to 3,000 characters, but only about the first 210, or three lines, show before “see more”, so make the first line of each cell count.

Add images by link. An image or video column takes public https links. Dripost fetches them into your Library during the import. A LinkedIn post carries up to 9 images or one video, not both.

How to change the time zone for LinkedIn scheduling

LinkedIn is read in working hours, and working hours depend on where your readers sit. Dripost converts your one clock to any audience you plan for.

Your clock. Dripost sets your time zone from the browser at first sign-in and tells you. Every LinkedIn time in the calendar and composer shows on it, with its short name.

Change it. Settings, then Profile, then Time zone. Pick from the common zones or the full list, or use this device’s zone with one click.

Scheduled posts don’t move. Changing zone keeps every post at its exact moment. A LinkedIn post for 9 AM India time still goes out then; on a Singapore clock it reads 11:30 AM.

How to cross post LinkedIn posts to X, Threads and more

A good LinkedIn post often has a shorter life elsewhere: a sharp line on X, a short thread on Threads, a photo post on Instagram.

Write the LinkedIn version first. Write the full post, up to 3,000 characters, with the hook in the first line. Attach photos or a video if you have them. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Turn on the other platforms. Tick X, Threads, Instagram or a Facebook Page in the composer. Each starts from your LinkedIn text, in its own tab, and can be changed without touching the LinkedIn version.

Cut it down for X. X takes 280 characters, with every link counted as 23, and Dripost sends one post of text to X. Use the X tab to keep the single sharpest line, or Trim to 280 to cut it exactly where X would.

How to delete a scheduled LinkedIn post

Three ways to stop a LinkedIn post before it goes out, each keeping something different.

Open the scheduled post. Find it on the Calendar or in Posts, then Queue, and open its card.

Hold it: Move to drafts. More, then Move to drafts, clears the time and keeps the text and images in Drafts. Use this when the news is only delayed.

Stop it: Cancel post. More, then Cancel post, and confirm. It will not go out. Dripost keeps the words on record.

How to download LinkedIn data: request your archive from Settings

LinkedIn lets you request an archive of your data from Settings & Privacy, then emails you a link when it is ready.

Open Settings & Privacy. On a computer, click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and choose Settings & Privacy. LinkedIn says this is desktop-only and not available on mobile.

Go to Data Privacy. Click Data Privacy on the left, and under How LinkedIn uses your data choose Download your data.

Choose what you want. Select the data you are looking for and press Request archive. LinkedIn says the archive can include more than 50 data categories, such as positions, education, skills, connections, messages and recommendations, depending on your activity.

How to edit a scheduled LinkedIn post

A scheduled LinkedIn post can be rewritten, re-illustrated or rescheduled right up to the moment it starts posting.

Open the post. Click it on the Calendar or find it in Posts, then Queue. The card shows the text as LinkedIn will show it, with the images or video.

Rewrite. Press Edit and change the LinkedIn text. The fold line redraws as you type and the count runs to 3,000. If the post also goes to X or Threads, their tabs keep their own versions.

Swap the media. Replace an image, add more up to 9, or swap in one video instead. A post can’t carry images and a video together on LinkedIn.

Why is LinkedIn not posting? Fixes that work

LinkedIn usually answers a post within seconds, so a failure shows quickly. The reason is almost always one of these.

It was meant for a Company Page. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

The connection expired. LinkedIn ends app connections from time to time. Dripost checks every two hours and flags a broken channel in Channels; its scheduled posts wait until you reconnect, then go out if their time hasn’t passed.

Images and a video together. LinkedIn takes up to 9 images or one video in a post, not both. Dripost stops a post that mixes them before you schedule it.

How to post on LinkedIn from a computer, now or later

Most LinkedIn posts are written at a desk anyway. Writing them in a scheduler on the same computer adds a real preview, a fold line and a time of your choosing.

Open Dripost in a browser. Any current browser on macOS or Windows works; there is nothing to download. Sign in with an emailed code, Google, a passkey or a password.

Connect LinkedIn. Open Channels and add LinkedIn. You sign in on LinkedIn’s own page and allow posting and reading your name. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Write with the fold in view. Press N for a new post, tick LinkedIn and write. The preview beside it marks where LinkedIn cuts to “…see more”, at about 210 characters or the third line break, and the count runs to 3,000.

How to schedule a LinkedIn carousel of photos

“Carousel” on LinkedIn can mean two things: a post with several photos, or a PDF uploaded as a swipeable document. Dripost schedules the first kind.

Connect LinkedIn. Add LinkedIn in Channels and allow posting. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Export slides as images. If the carousel started as slides in Canva, Keynote or PowerPoint, export each slide as a JPG or PNG. Dripost sends images and video to LinkedIn, not PDF documents, so a document carousel has to be posted on LinkedIn itself.

Attach up to 9 images. Drop the images into the composer and drag them into order; the first one leads. LinkedIn in Dripost takes up to 9 images, or one video, in a post; it can’t mix the two.

How to schedule a LinkedIn video post

A video uploaded to LinkedIn itself sits in the post rather than behind a link. Scheduling it means it goes up at the hour your connections are reading, not the hour you finished editing.

Connect LinkedIn. Add LinkedIn in Channels. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

Attach one video. A LinkedIn post in Dripost carries one video, or up to 9 images, never both. Drop the file into the composer; it goes to LinkedIn as you made it, never re-encoded.

Write what sits above it. The text shows above the video, and only about the first 210 characters or three lines show before “see more”. Say what the video is and why it is worth a minute.
