Schedule YouTube Videos and Shorts: How It Works
You can schedule YouTube videos so that they go up at the time you choose. Upload the finished video once, set everything YouTube asks for, and let it publish. This guide shows how to schedule a video on YouTube, with Dripost or in YouTube Studio.
How to schedule YouTube videos
In YouTube Studio, upload the video, choose Schedule on the last screen and pick a date and time. With Dripost, you do the same once for every platform you post to. On a phone, Dripost works in the browser, and the YouTube Studio app has its own Schedule option.
1. Connect your channel
In Dripost, open Channels and add YouTube. You sign in with Google and allow uploads and reading your channel’s name. Nothing more.
Dripost is free to start: every account gets 14 days of Pro with no card, then a Free plan you can keep.
2. Add the video
One video per post, sent to YouTube as you made it, never re-encoded. A square or vertical video of three minutes or less goes up as a Short.
3. Title, description, thumbnail, privacy
Titles up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 5,000, checked before you schedule. Add a custom thumbnail if YouTube has verified your channel; if not, the video still goes up and Dripost tells you. Choose private, unlisted or public.
4. Pick a time
Choose when Dripost uploads it. See the best time to post on YouTube for when viewers are likely around.
5. Check it went live
Dripost asks YouTube until the video is processed and live, then shows its link. If the upload fails, you get an email with the reason.
If a YouTube video is not uploading
Check the file first: YouTube takes up to 256 GB or 12 hours, and an unverified channel is held to 15 minutes. If the upload stalls, a lost connection is the usual cause. Dripost sends the file in parts and checks with YouTube before it sends anything again. YouTube’s own help page lists the other reasons.
How to add a link to a YouTube video description
The description and the first comment are where a video sends people onward: to a shop, a newsletter, a playlist or the next video.
Put links in the description. Write the description on the YouTube tab and paste each full address, https included. The description goes up to 5,000 characters, and a link counts as the characters you typed.
Keep the key link near the top. Lead with the one link that matters most and say in a few words what it is. A wall of addresses with no explanation is easy to scroll past.
Use the first comment too. The First Comment field on the YouTube tab posts from your channel right after the upload. It suits a link you want in the conversation, or a question with the link after it.
YouTube video approval before upload: how to set it up
A video is the hardest post to take back. Approval means the client watches the final cut and reads the title before it ever reaches the channel.
Turn on approvals for the client. In Settings, then Clients, set the channel’s client to “Posts wait for a yes”. The Team screen has the same switch for the client that is open.
Add the reviewer. Invite the client or manager with the approver role. They can watch and decide, but not change the upload, and they don’t count as a seat.
Send the upload for approval. Prepare the video with its title, description, thumbnail and visibility, then press Send for approval. It waits in Approvals with its chosen upload time, and approvers are notified.
How to auto post to YouTube on a schedule
A channel that uploads on the same days each week is easier to follow. Queue the videos once, and each one uploads at its slot without you there.
Connect the channel. Add YouTube in Channels with the Google account that owns the channel. Dripost asks to upload and to read the channel’s name.
Set the upload rhythm. Open Posts, then Posting times, and add weekly times for YouTube, such as Tuesday and Friday at 6 PM, or every day for Shorts. They are shown on your own clock.
Prepare each video fully. Attach the video, set a title (up to 100 characters), description, visibility, thumbnail and first comment. Vertical videos of three minutes or less start as a Short.
How to bulk schedule YouTube videos
A month of Shorts, or a season of uploads, is easier to plan in a sheet with titles side by side. Dripost reads that sheet and schedules each row as its own upload.
Connect the channel. In Channels, add YouTube and sign in with the Google account that owns the channel. You allow uploads and reading the channel’s name, nothing more.
One row, one video. YouTube takes exactly one video per upload and no images, so each YouTube row needs one public https link to a video file. Dripost fetches the file into your Library before it creates the post, and a row whose file can’t be fetched says so.
Titles and descriptions. Add a column for the title; Dripost recognises it as the YouTube title. Titles go up to 100 characters and descriptions up to 5,000. A row without a title uses the first line of its text as the title, up to the limit, so give every video its own title column value if you care how it reads.
How to change the time zone for YouTube scheduling
A release set for a Saturday morning in New York is a Saturday evening in India. Dripost keeps you on one clock and converts every upload time from it.
Find your clock. Dripost sets your time zone from your browser the first time you sign in, and says so. Every upload time in the calendar and the composer shows on it, with the zone’s short name beside the time fields.
Change it. Go to Settings, then Profile, then Time zone. Choose from the common zones or the full list and save. If this computer is somewhere else, one click uses its zone instead.
Scheduled uploads stay put. An upload keeps its exact moment when you change zone. A video set for 9 PM India time uploads at that instant, whether your calendar now reads it as 7:30 PM in Dubai or anything else.
How to cross post YouTube videos to Instagram and more
The vertical clip that works as a Short usually works as a Reel too. Posting it once to every platform saves re-uploading the same file again and again.
Upload the video once. Attach the file in the composer. It is sent to every platform exactly as you made it, never re-encoded, so each one gets the original quality.
Fill in YouTube’s own fields. YouTube needs a title (up to 100 characters), a description, and a visibility of public, unlisted or private. Mark it as a Short or a Video: square or vertical and three minutes or less should count as a Short, which YouTube decides in the end.
Tick the other platforms. Add Instagram and the video posts there as a Reel. Add a Facebook Page and a vertical clip of 3 to 90 seconds goes as a Reel, anything else as a Page video. LinkedIn takes the video on your profile. Threads takes it as one post.
How to cancel a scheduled YouTube upload
A scheduled video in Dripost hasn’t touched YouTube yet. Stopping it is clean: nothing needs removing from the channel.
Find the upload. Open the post from the Calendar or from Posts, then Queue.
Push it back: Move to drafts. Choose More, then Move to drafts. The upload time is cleared; the file, title, description, thumbnail choice and first comment stay together in Drafts.
Call it off: Cancel post. Choose More, then Cancel post, and confirm. The video will not upload. Dripost keeps the text on record.
How to save a YouTube video as a draft to finish later
A video rarely arrives finished in one sitting. The title comes one day, the thumbnail another, the final cut last. A draft keeps all the pieces together until then.
Start with what you have. Open the composer and tick YouTube. Write the description, try a few titles in the Title field, and add the first comment you want under the video. The channel doesn’t need to be connected before you start.
Save it. Choose Draft at the bottom and press Save draft. The post lands in Posts, then Drafts, with the title, visibility, Short or Video choice and first comment kept.
Add the video when the edit is done. Upload the final export to the Library whenever it is ready, then open the draft, press Edit, and attach it. YouTube takes exactly one video per upload, with no photos alongside.
How to edit a scheduled YouTube video before it uploads
Because Dripost uploads at the scheduled time, everything about the video can still change until then, even the file itself.
Open the scheduled upload. Find it on the Calendar or in Posts, then Queue. The card shows the video with its title and time.
Swap the video file. Press Edit, remove the video and attach the new export. Nothing has reached YouTube yet, so the new file is simply the one that uploads.
Rework title and description. Change the title (up to 100 characters, counted beside the field) and the description. If you add more than 15 hashtags, Dripost warns you that YouTube ignores all of them on that video.
How to post a first comment on YouTube videos
The first comment under a video is prime space for a link, a timestamp list or a question. Dripost can post it from your channel as soon as the video is up.
Connect YouTube. Add YouTube in Channels and sign in with the Google account for the channel. Posting a comment uses YouTube’s comment permission, which is separate from uploading.
Add the video and its details. Attach the video, then fill in the YouTube tab: a title up to 100 characters, the description, visibility and, if you have one, a custom thumbnail.
Write the first comment. The YouTube tab has a First Comment field. Write the link, the chapter list or the question there. The AI Assistant can also suggest one from your text if you want a starting line.
Why is YouTube not posting my video? Common fixes
A YouTube upload can stop at several points: before it starts, during the upload, or in processing. Each shows up differently, and each has its own fix.
Something was missing. YouTube needs exactly one video, no images, and a title. Dripost stops a post missing any of these before it can be scheduled, and says which.
The Google connection ended. Google ends an app’s access if you remove it in your Google account, and now and then for other reasons. Dripost checks connections every two hours; a broken one is flagged in Channels, and its scheduled videos wait until you reconnect.
The upload was cut off. If the upload stops partway, nothing was posted and Dripost says it is safe to try again. If YouTube can’t confirm whether it landed, Dripost asks you to check the channel before retrying, so the video never appears twice.
How to post on YouTube from a computer, scheduled
Most YouTube videos are edited on a computer. Uploading from the same machine, with every field filled and a time set, means the phone never has to be involved.
Open Dripost in the browser. It runs in any current browser on a Mac or Windows PC, with nothing to install. Connect YouTube under Channels with the Google account that owns the channel.
Drop in the exported file. Drag the video onto the composer. It uploads from your browser straight to storage in parts; if the tab closes partway, attaching the same file again within a few hours carries on from the parts already sent.
Title, description and visibility. Type a title up to 100 characters, or let Dripost take one from your first sentence. The description takes up to 5,000 characters. Choose public, unlisted or private.
YouTube video not uploading: causes and fixes
Most upload problems come from a short list: an unverified account with a long video, a file past the limits, or a video that has uploaded and is still processing.
The video is longer than 15 minutes. By default an unverified account can upload videos up to 15 minutes. Verify the Google account by text or call, then upload again. YouTube points you to the verification steps in the mobile app when you pick a longer video.
The file is too big. The ceiling is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less. If you are over, cut or compress the video. YouTube recommends H.264 for keeping a file small without hurting the picture.
It uploaded, but looks stuck. After upload comes processing. YouTube says it depends on quality, length, format and traffic, and that 4K or HD takes longer. A long wait at the processing step is usually that, not a failure.

Questions
Why is my scheduled video private?
YouTube keeps uploads from apps it hasn’t audited private. Dripost tells you when that happens instead of calling the video public.
Can the same video go to Instagram too?
Yes. Pick Instagram in the same post and the video goes there as a Reel.
Can you schedule YouTube videos?
Yes. YouTube Studio has a Schedule option, and Dripost schedules the upload for you, with the link sent once the video is live.
How to schedule a video on YouTube?
Upload it, choose Schedule instead of Publish and pick a date and time. In Dripost, add the video, fill in the title and description, and pick the time.
How do I schedule YouTube videos on my phone?
The YouTube Studio app has its own Schedule option in the visibility step of an upload, though its menus move, so check the app. Dripost also works in a phone browser: add the video, fill in the title and pick the time.
Can I add links to a Short?
The description and first comment take links for any upload. How YouTube displays them on a Short is up to YouTube.
Does Dripost shorten or track links?
No. Links go out exactly as written.
Does the review link work on a phone?
Yes. The video plays on phones and computers, including Safari.
Can the client comment on a specific change?
They can leave a note when they send it back, and comments stay with the post.
Is automated uploading allowed on YouTube?
Yes. Dripost uses YouTube’s own upload API, with your permission for the channel.
Does Dripost use YouTube’s scheduled publish?
No. Dripost uploads at the time you choose, with the visibility you set.
Can I set Short or Video per row?
YouTube decides from the file: square or vertical and three minutes or less is a Short. Open a post after import to set the Short choice, which adds #Shorts.
Can I set privacy per row?
Privacy is set per post in the composer: public, unlisted or private. Open the imported post to change it.
Does YouTube Studio’s time zone matter?
Not for Dripost uploads. Dripost uploads at the moment you picked; YouTube shows the time to each viewer in their own zone.
Can I set a different zone per channel?
No. The zone belongs to you, not to the channel. Schedule each channel for its viewers’ hours.
Will a 60-second Short go to Instagram as a Reel?
Yes. Any single video sent to Instagram posts as a Reel.
Can a long landscape video go to Instagram?
Instagram takes it as a Reel, and Instagram’s own help gives Reel ratios from 1.91:1 to 9:16. Vertical works best there.
Can Dripost delete a video that is already on my channel?
No. Delete or hide a live video in YouTube Studio.
What if the upload has already started?
Once it is uploading, it can’t be pulled back from Dripost. Set it to private or delete it in YouTube Studio if needed.
Does a Dripost draft appear in YouTube Studio?
No. Nothing reaches YouTube until the scheduled upload. Studio only sees the finished video.
Can I draft a Short and a long video together?
Each YouTube upload is its own post. Save two drafts, one per video.
Can Dripost edit a video that is already on YouTube?
No. Once it is live, change the title, description or thumbnail in YouTube Studio.
How late can I swap the file?
Until the upload starts at the scheduled time.
Does the first comment go out if the video is private?
Dripost posts it after the upload, whatever the visibility; viewers see it when they can see the video.
Can Dripost post first comments on other platforms?
On Instagram, yes. LinkedIn only lets partner apps comment, and Facebook, X and Threads have no first comment in Dripost.
How long does YouTube take to process?
It varies with length and quality. Dripost keeps checking and shows the link once the video is ready.
Will Dripost retry a failed upload by itself?
No. You get an email at once with the reason, and Retry re-sends only when you press it.
Is this different from uploading in YouTube Studio?
YouTube Studio uploads now and can set a publish time. Dripost holds the file and uploads it at the time you choose, alongside your other platforms.
Can I upload a 4K file?
Yes, within your plan’s storage. Dripost sends the file as it is, and YouTube processes it.
Why is my YouTube video stuck at processing?
Processing time depends on quality, length, format and traffic, and 4K or HD takes longer. Wait and check Studio before re-uploading.
Why can’t I upload more than 15 minutes on YouTube?
Unverified accounts are held to 15 minutes. Verify by phone to lift it.
