Twitter Schedule: How to Schedule Tweets (X Posts)

A Twitter schedule lets good posts go out when people are scrolling instead of when you thought of them. X moves fast, but you can write a tweet when you have the thought and schedule Twitter posts for later.

How to schedule tweets and Twitter posts

Connect X, write within 280 characters, pick a time or a queue slot, and Dripost posts it. A thread is shown as one piece of text and posted as separate posts, and the same steps schedule a Twitter thread. The sections after the steps cover bulk scheduling, editing, deleting and time zones.

Who this is for

Writers, founders, developers and brands who post on X most days and would rather write several at once than stop what they’re doing every few hours.

1. Connect X

In Dripost, open Channels and add X. You sign in on X’s own page and allow Dripost to post for you.

2. Write within 280, counted X’s way

Dripost posts text to X: one post of up to 280 characters, with no photos, video or threads. The X tab counts like X does: every link is 23 characters however long, most emoji count as two, and Hindi or other Devanagari letters count as one each.

3. Too long? Trim or cut

A post over 280 is stopped before scheduling, with how far over it is. Press Trim to 280 to cut it exactly where X would, or rewrite it. Dripost doesn’t post threads to X.

4. Pick a time

Choose a day and time, or press Add to queue to use your next weekly X posting time. The best time to post on X guide covers when people are likely reading.

5. Posting and the link

At that time Dripost sends the post to X from its servers. X answers straight away, and Dripost shows the post’s link from that answer.

6. If X refuses it

You get an email with X’s own reason and the post shows as failed on its day. Fix it and press Retry; nothing is ever re-sent automatically.

Photos and video with the same post

If the post also goes to Instagram, LinkedIn or Threads with a photo or video, X gets its own text-only post at the same time while the media goes to the others.

Plan availability

Scheduling to X is on every plan. Free allows 10 posts per channel a month; Creator is unlimited within fair use.

How to add a link to a tweet without losing characters

On X a link’s length doesn’t matter. Any address, long or short, costs the same 23 characters, which changes how you write around it.

Paste the full address. Every link on X counts as 23 characters whatever its real length, because X rewrites it. A 90-character address costs the same as a 20-character one, so there’s no need for a link shortener to save space.

Count it the way X does. The X tab in Dripost applies that rule as you type, so what you see left is what X will allow. That leaves 256 characters for words with one link and a space.

Put the reason first. Lead with why the link is worth opening, then the address at the end. A post that is only a link gives people nothing to react to.

Tweet approval: get X posts signed off before they go

A brand’s X account can land in trouble in one post. An approval step means nobody’s post goes out on the account until someone responsible says yes.

Turn it on for the client. In Settings, then Clients, set the client that owns the X account to “Posts wait for a yes”. The Team screen has the same switch for whichever client is open.

Add approvers. Invite the brand manager or client with the approver role. They read and decide; they can’t edit, and they don’t take a paid seat.

Send for approval. Writers write the post as normal, within 280 characters counted X’s way, and press Send for approval. It waits in Approvals with its time; approvers are notified.

How to bulk schedule tweets from a CSV

Short posts suit a spreadsheet: one line each, a column for the time, and a quick read down the list for tone. Import it and the week of X posts is done.

Connect X. Add X in Channels and allow posting. Dripost posts text to X: one post of up to 280 characters, with no photos, video or threads.

One post per row. Columns for the text, the date, the time and the platforms are enough. Add a link column if you keep links apart; Dripost adds it to the post text. Column names are matched for you, and you can change any match.

Keep each row under 280, X’s way. Remember X’s own counting when you write in a sheet: every link costs 23, most emoji cost two. The free X character counter on Dripost checks a line in your browser before you paste it into the sheet.

How to change the time zone for scheduled tweets

Posts on X live and die in the hour they go out. Getting that hour right for your followers’ zone matters more here than almost anywhere.

The clock you see. Dripost sets your zone from your browser at first sign-in and tells you. Every time in the calendar, the Queue list and the composer shows on it, with the zone’s short name.

Change it. Settings, then Profile, then Time zone: pick from the common zones or the full list. On a device in another zone, a button offers to use that device’s zone.

Scheduled posts stay at their moment. A post set for 8 PM India time goes out then, however your clock reads afterwards. On a Singapore clock it shows as 10:30 PM, and still leaves at the same instant.

How to cross post from X to Threads and LinkedIn

A post that works on X often works on Threads word for word, and on LinkedIn with a little more context. Writing once and adjusting per platform saves the copy-and-paste.

Write for X. Start with the X version, within 280 characters counted X’s way. Dripost posts text to X: one post of up to 280 characters, with no photos, video or threads.

Tick Threads, LinkedIn or others. Every platform you tick starts from the X text in its own tab. Change one without touching the others; an Edited tag shows which ones differ, and Reset brings the shared text back.

Say more where there is room. Threads takes 500 characters a post and chains longer text as replies. LinkedIn takes 3,000, with about 210 shown before “see more”. Add the example or the context X had no room for.

How to delete a scheduled tweet

Timing is everything on X, and sometimes the right move is not to post. Three ways to stop a scheduled post, each keeping something different.

Open the post. Find it on the Calendar or in Posts, then Queue, and open its card.

Hold it for later. More, then Move to drafts. The time is cleared and the words wait in Drafts until the moment is right.

Cancel it. More, then Cancel post, and confirm. It won’t go out by any route, including a retry. Dripost keeps the text on record.

How to download Twitter data: your X archive, plus exporting your posts

X calls it the X archive: you request it from your account's data settings, confirm it is you, and X emails a link when it is ready, which can take a few days.

Make sure your email is confirmed. X's help page asks you to confirm your email address before requesting the archive, and to be logged in to the same browser you will download from.

Request the archive. In the app, open your profile menu, then Settings and privacy, then Account, then Your X data. X asks you to verify your identity with a code sent to the email or phone on file, and then offers Request data under Download your data.

Wait for the email. X says it may take a few days to prepare the archive. It then emails the confirmed address, or sends a push notification, with a download link.

How to save tweet drafts you can finish later

Most good X posts start as a rough line jotted down between other things. A drafts list keeps those lines until they’re ready.

Jot it down. Open the composer, tick X and write the line. It can be over 280 for now; a draft is where you trim it later. You can start before X is connected.

Save draft. Pick Draft (“Keep it in Drafts to finish later”) and press Save draft. It lands in Posts, then Drafts, alongside drafts for every other platform.

Sharpen it. Open the draft and press Edit. The X count follows X’s own rules, with links at 23 and most emoji at two. Trim to 280 cuts at the exact point X would, if you want a starting cut.

How to edit a scheduled tweet before it posts

A scheduled X post isn’t on X yet, so every word of it can still change. Here is where to do it and what to watch for.

Find the post. Click it on the Calendar or open Posts, then Queue. The card shows the words exactly as they’ll post.

Edit the words. Press Edit and rewrite the X tab. The count keeps to X’s rules as you type: links at 23, most emoji at two. Over 280 is stopped, and Trim to 280 gives you the exact cut.

Move the time. Drag the post to a new slot on the calendar, or set a time on its card and press Move. With fast-moving news, moving it sooner can matter as much as the words.

Why is X not posting? Fixes for scheduled tweets

X answers a post in a second or two, so problems show fast. Most come down to a few causes.

It was over 280. X counts links as 23 each and most emoji as two, so a post that looks short can be over. Dripost counts the same way and stops an over-long post before scheduling; if you imported it, it came in as a draft with the reason.

It had an image or video for X. Dripost posts text to X: one post of up to 280 characters, with no photos, video or threads. When media is attached, X gets its own text-only post and the media goes to the other platforms. A post for X alone with media attached is stopped with a note to remove it.

The connection ended. X ends app connections from time to time. Dripost checks connections every two hours and flags a broken one in Channels; its scheduled posts wait until you reconnect.

How to post on X from a computer, now or scheduled

Typing on a real keyboard makes X posts faster to write and easier to edit. Doing it in a scheduler adds a count you can trust and a time of your choosing.

Sign in to Dripost. Open it in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on a Mac or PC; nothing to install. Sign in with an emailed code, Google, a passkey or a password.

Connect X. Open Channels, add X, and approve on X’s own page. Dripost posts text to X: one post of up to 280 characters, with no photos, video or threads.

Write with the count in view. Press N, tick X, and type. The count follows X’s rules: a link is always 23, most emoji are two, Devanagari letters are one each. The preview shows links, hashtags and @mentions coloured the way X shows them.

How to post a video to Twitter (X): what Dripost can and can’t do

Dripost can’t put a video on X. It posts to X as text only, so a post with a video goes to X as a separate text-only post.

The plain answer. Twitter is now called X. Dripost posts to X as text only, and never uploads a video there.

What happens to a post with a video. Write one post, add the video, and tick the platforms. YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads and LinkedIn each receive the video.

Keeping X text within the limit. X counts every link as 23 characters and most emoji as two, against a limit of 280. The composer counts the way X does, so you see what is left.

Manage multiple Twitter accounts (X): switching and safe sharing

X lets one person add more than one account to the app and website and switch between them. What it does not solve is two people working on the same account.

Use X’s own account switching. X’s help page on managing multiple accounts explains how to add an existing account or create a new one, and how to switch between them. The steps differ between the apps and the website, so follow the page for your device.

Keep the accounts apart in your head. A reply sent from the wrong handle is public in seconds. Before you post, read the handle at the top of the composer, especially if one account is personal and another is a company’s.

The shared password problem. The easy way to get a colleague onto an account is to give them the login. That puts your password in chat history, takes away your ability to know who posted, and breaks the day that account asks for a login code sent to your phone.

X (Twitter) permissions: sharing account access without the password

X has a delegate feature for sharing an account, and it is the supported alternative to giving a colleague your password.

Invite a delegate. Log in to x.com with the account, choose Your account in the navigation bar, then Security and account access, then X Delegate, then Invite a member.

Change a role or remove someone. Go back to Security and account access, X Delegate, then Members you’ve delegated to. Pick Change role or Remove from account and confirm. Owners and admins can manage delegates.

No. Once it is on X, any change is made on X.

    How late can I edit?

Until it starts posting at its time.

Can I post images to X from Dripost?

No. Dripost posts text to X. Photos and video go to your other platforms in the same post.

A separate text-only post. The video goes to the other platforms you picked.

How many X accounts can I switch between?

X’s help page on multiple accounts gives the current limit, which can change. Check it there rather than relying on a number in an article.

Is it safe to share my X password with a freelancer?

It is better not to. Connect the account to a scheduling tool and let them post through it.

How do I give someone access to my X account?
