How to save a YouTube video as a draft to finish later
Here is how to draft a YouTube video in Dripost: save the pieces you have now and finish the rest later. A video rarely arrives finished in one sitting. The title comes one day, the thumbnail another, the final cut last. A draft keeps all the pieces together until then.
Who this is for
Channels that write titles and descriptions before the edit is done, teams where an editor, a designer and a writer each add a piece, and creators who plan Shorts days ahead.
1. Start with what you have
Open the composer and tick YouTube. Write the description, try a few titles in the Title field, and add the first comment you want under the video. The channel doesn’t need to be connected before you start.
2. Save it
Choose Draft at the bottom and press Save draft. The post lands in Posts, then Drafts, with the title, visibility, Short or Video choice and first comment kept.
3. Add the video when the edit is done
Upload the final export to the Library whenever it is ready, then open the draft, press Edit, and attach it. YouTube takes exactly one video per upload, with no photos alongside.
4. Add the thumbnail
Upload the thumbnail image to the Library and pick it in the YouTube tab. Custom thumbnails need a channel YouTube has verified; without that, the video still uploads and Dripost says the thumbnail was skipped.
5. Schedule the upload
When everything is in, switch from Draft to Schedule and pick the time, or Add to queue. Dripost uploads at that time, not before.
6. Unfinished work isn’t lost
Close the composer mid-edit and the work stays on that device; the next New asks “Resume unfinished post?”. Save as a draft to reach it from another computer or share it with the team.
Plan availability
Drafts are on every plan. On Pro, up to 5 people can work on the same drafts.
Questions
Does a Dripost draft appear in YouTube Studio?
No. Nothing reaches YouTube until the scheduled upload. Studio only sees the finished video.
Can I draft a Short and a long video together?
Each YouTube upload is its own post. Save two drafts, one per video.
Can I move a scheduled upload back to drafts?
Yes. Open it, choose More, then Move to drafts.
Does a draft use storage?
Only the files attached to it do, and those sit in your Library either way. A draft with no video yet takes no storage at all.
