Facebook character limit for Page posts

Here is how to check the character limit for Facebook before you publish. Facebook Page posts can be very long. The number that matters in practice isn’t the limit, it’s how much people see before See more.

Who this is for

Page admins writing stories, announcements or long product descriptions, and anyone pasting an article into a post and wondering if it will fit.

1. The ceiling: 63,206 characters

Dripost uses 63,206 characters as the Page post ceiling, the limit Facebook has enforced for years. Meta’s Graph API reference doesn’t restate a number, so this check exists mainly to stop a runaway paste before Facebook does.

Facebook Pages in Dripost are in live testing now: built and posting for real, open to tester accounts, and open to everyone once that test is done.

2. How Dripost counts

For Facebook, each character counts once: an emoji is one, and a link counts as the characters you typed. The count sits under the Facebook tab as you write.

3. The fold matters more

Facebook folds long posts behind See more, and where it folds depends on where the post is shown. Meta doesn’t publish one number for it, so Dripost doesn’t draw a fold line for Facebook rather than guess one.

4. Front-load the post

Put the news, the offer or the question in the first sentence or two. Keep the first line short and follow it with a line break, which reads well however early the fold lands.

5. Make one post fit many platforms

The same text may be far too long elsewhere: 280 characters on X, 500 per Threads post, 3,000 on LinkedIn. Each tab in Dripost shows its own count, so trim the others while Facebook keeps the full version.

6. Break up long posts

Short paragraphs with a blank line between them are easier to read on a phone than one long block. Line breaks typed in Dripost reach Facebook as typed.

Questions

What is the Facebook character limit?

63,206 characters for a Page post, the long-standing limit Facebook enforces.

Do hashtags count toward the limit?

Yes, every character in the post counts, hashtags included.

Is there a free counter?

Yes, Dripost’s free character counter works in your browser without an account.

Is a long Facebook post a bad idea?

Not in itself. Long posts work when the first lines give a reason to tap See more. Write the full text for Facebook and a shorter version for platforms with tighter limits.
