How to add someone to your YouTube channel: roles and steps
You add someone to a YouTube channel from YouTube Studio’s Permissions page by inviting their email address and choosing a role.
The roles YouTube offers
Owner has full control, including deleting the channel and managing permissions. Manager can manage permissions, edit details, upload and manage livestreams, but cannot delete the channel.
Editor can upload, publish and manage content but cannot delete the channel or manage permissions. Editor (Limited) is the same without access to revenue data.
Viewer has read-only access to channel data and analytics; Viewer (Limited) leaves out revenue. A Subtitle Editor can add, edit, publish and delete subtitles on eligible videos.
1. Check the account type
YouTube says that if you have a Brand Account you must first migrate to channel permissions. Do that first, or the invite option won’t be there.
2. Open Permissions in YouTube Studio
In the YouTube Studio app, tap your profile picture, then Settings, then Permissions. YouTube’s page describes the Android app; on a computer, look for the same Permissions area in Studio settings.
3. Invite and choose a role
Tap Invite, type the person’s email address, choose a role and send it. The invitation expires after 30 days, so send it again if it lapses.
4. Remove access later
Back in Settings and Permissions, select the person and tap Remove. Only managers and owners can see who holds access and their emails.
Scheduling uploads without more channel roles
Rather than hand out an Editor role to everyone who uploads, connect the channel to Dripost once. Teammates schedule through Dripost as editors, and an approver can sign videos off first.
Dripost waits for YouTube to finish processing, then reads back the live link, so you see the video is really up.
