X (Twitter) permissions: sharing account access without the password
Here is how to share X account access with a teammate without handing over the password. X has a delegate feature for sharing an account, and it is the supported alternative to giving a colleague your password.
Why a shared password is the wrong tool
Whoever knows the password can post, read direct messages, change the email and lock everyone else out. Nothing shows who sent which post, and every time somebody leaves, you have to change the password and tell everyone else.
X Delegate: the roles
X Delegate lets several people work on one account, with roles assigned or removed and no shared password. You switch it on and send invites from x.com, even though it also works in X Pro.
The owner manages the password, phone number and login verification, can invite admins and contributors, and can post, repost, message, like, schedule, delete posts and create lists.
An admin can invite others and act for the account, including collections, and can view post analytics. A contributor can act for the account in the same ways but cannot manage delegates.
X says account owners are responsible for content posted by their admins and contributors, so choose who you invite with that in mind.
1. Invite a delegate
Log in to x.com with the account, choose Your account in the navigation bar, then Security and account access, then X Delegate, then Invite a member.
Type the person’s name or @username, choose contributor or admin, and send the invite. They get an email and an invitation inside Delegate, and must accept it.
A person can switch off “Allow others to Delegate to you”, which blocks invites to them.
2. Change a role or remove someone
Go back to Security and account access, X Delegate, then Members you’ve delegated to. Pick Change role or Remove from account and confirm. Owners and admins can manage delegates.
Changing the account password does not remove a delegate’s access, so removal has to be done here.
Rules for any shared X account
Turn on two-step sign-in for the owner login. Keep the recovery email and phone with someone who is not leaving. Write down who has access and review it each quarter.
Team posting in Dripost
Connect the X account once and let the team schedule through Dripost. Roles: owner, admin, editor, viewer, approver. No one needs the X password.
Changes to who has access need “Confirm it’s you”, a fresh 6-digit code. Anyone can only manage people below their own role.
X numbers aren’t available in Dripost, so read results in X itself. If X refuses a post, Dripost emails you at once with X’s own reason and Retry re-sends only the platform that failed.
