How to Add a Collaborator on Instagram (Collab Posts)

Here is what happens when you add a collaborator on Instagram. A collaborator is another account you invite onto a single post. It shares the post with that person; it does not give them any control of your account.

How to add a collaborator on Instagram: what a Collab post is

Instagram’s Collab feature lets you invite another account to work with you on a post. Once the invite is accepted, the post shows on the profiles of everyone involved.

Instagram caps how many people can join one post. Check its help page for the current limit rather than trusting an older blog post, because the number is Instagram’s to change.

What it does not do

A collaborator cannot log into your account, schedule for you or change your settings. The invite attaches to one post and that is all.

If what you actually want is for a colleague or freelancer to run your account, a Collab invite is the wrong tool. That is a question of account access, which Instagram handles separately.

Collaborator or teammate: which one you need

Use a Collab post when two accounts should both be credited on the same piece of content, such as a brand and a creator.

Use account access when someone needs to prepare and publish posts on your behalf, week after week. Instagram describes how to give someone access to your account on its help page linked below.

Handling teammates in Dripost

In Dripost you connect your Instagram account once. Teammates then post through Dripost and nobody needs your Instagram password.

You choose the role: owner, admin, editor, viewer or approver. Anyone can be limited to certain clients, so a freelancer sees only the account they work on.

To post a Collab invite itself you still use Instagram. Dripost’s roles are about who in your team may prepare, approve and schedule.

Questions

Can an Instagram collaborator post from my account?

No. A collaborator is invited to one post. It gives no access to your account.

Does a Collab post appear on both profiles?

Yes. Instagram’s help page says it appears on the profiles of all the accounts involved once the invite is accepted.

How do I let my team manage Instagram without sharing my password?

Use a tool with roles. In Dripost, connect the account once and add teammates by email invite with a role.

How do I collaborate on Instagram with another account?

Invite them onto a post or Reel from Tag people, then Invite collaborators. Once they accept, the post shows on both profiles, and neither account gets any control of the other.

How to invite a collaborator on Instagram?

When you create a post or Reel, choose Tag people, then Invite collaborators, and pick the account. They get a request and the post shows on both profiles once they accept.

What are the steps to add a collaborator after posting?

Open the post, tap the three dots, then Edit, and look for Invite collaborator. If you do not see it, Instagram has not given that option to your account. Check Instagram’s Help Center for the current steps.

Can you add a collaborator on Instagram after posting?

Often yes, from the post’s Edit screen, but Instagram decides who gets the option. Check Instagram’s Help Center for the current steps.

How many collaborators on an Instagram Reel?

Instagram sets the limit and has changed it, so check its Help Center page on Collabs for the current number.

What is a collaborator on Instagram?

Instagram collaboration, the Collab feature, lets you invite an account to share one post or Reel with you, so the post appears on both profiles. It is not the same as giving someone a role on your account.

How to make someone a collaborator on Instagram?

Invite them from the post screen and wait for them to accept. For ongoing access to your account, give them a role in Dripost or Meta’s settings instead.
