How to Turn Off Comments on a Facebook Post, and Hide Them

You can turn off comments on a Facebook post, or limit who can comment, from the post's menu. The controls differ for a profile and a Page. This guide shows both, and what hiding a comment does.

Turn off comments on a Facebook post from your profile

Open the post's three-dot menu and look for the option to choose who can comment. You can usually pick the public, friends, or only the profiles and Pages you mention. Choosing the narrowest option turns comments off for most people.

Names and positions of the options change, so check Facebook's Help Center if yours differ.

Comments on a Page

A Page has moderation settings instead. You can hide individual comments, block words and use the Page's controls to limit who can reply. If you want no comments at all on a particular post, check the post's menu for the commenting choice.

What happens when you hide a comment

A hidden comment stays visible to the person who wrote it and their friends, but disappears for everyone else. The writer is not told. Deleting a comment removes it completely.

When to limit comments

Limit comments on posts that attract abuse or spam, or on announcements where replies add nothing. For most posts, replying and moderating works better than switching comments off.
