How to add a link to a LinkedIn post

Here is how to add a link to LinkedIn posts in Dripost, and where it should sit in the post. Links on LinkedIn get a lot of advice, most of it about hiding them in the comments. With a scheduler the choice is simpler: the link goes in the post, placed with care.

Who this is for

Anyone sharing an article, a job opening, a product page, a sign-up form or a newsletter on their LinkedIn profile, and wondering where the link should go.

1. Put the link in the post text

Paste the full address, https included, into the LinkedIn tab. It counts toward the 3,000 characters as the letters you typed, and Dripost sends the text as written. Dripost posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. Company Pages need a LinkedIn partner approval Dripost doesn’t have, so they can’t be connected.

2. Why not the first comment?

A first comment on LinkedIn needs LinkedIn’s partner-only comment access, which Dripost doesn’t have, so Dripost can’t add one. That is why this guide keeps the link in the post; if you prefer the comment, add it yourself on LinkedIn once the post is live.

3. Earn the click above the fold

Only about the first 210 characters or three lines show before “see more”. Use them for the reason to click, then put the link after the reader already cares, lower in the post.

4. One link, one ask

A post with one clear link and one clear request does better than a list of addresses. If you need to share several, write a short line before each saying what it is.

5. Share the same link on other platforms

Tick X or Threads in the same post. X counts every link as 23 characters however long it is; Threads allows up to 5 links in each post. Each tab shows its own count.

6. Schedule and check the live post

Pick a time. Once LinkedIn accepts the post, Dripost shows its link, so you can open it and see how the preview came out.

Links with images

If you attach photos or a video, the link still works in the text, and the images lead the post visually. Pick one or the other based on what should catch the eye first: your own image or the page you link to.

Questions

Can Dripost post my link as a LinkedIn first comment?

No. LinkedIn only lets partner apps comment, and Dripost isn’t one. Keep the link in the post, or add the comment yourself after it goes live.

Does Dripost shorten links?

No. Links go out as you wrote them.

Do links count toward LinkedIn’s limit?

Yes, every character of the address counts toward 3,000.
