Why Is My Instagram Post Not Posting? Causes and Fixes

Why is my Instagram post not posting? When an Instagram post won’t go out, the reason is usually one of a few. Here is how to tell which, and what to do. The same checks apply when a post is not showing or a video is not uploading.

Why is my Instagram post not posting? It’s a personal account

Apps can only publish to Business or Creator accounts. If a scheduler can’t post, check the account type in Instagram’s settings; switching is free.

The media doesn’t fit

Instagram needs a photo or video on every post; a text-only post can’t go out. A video that Instagram can’t process is refused after upload.

Too many hashtags

Instagram allows 5 hashtags on a post or Reel (it was 30 until December 2025). A post carrying more can fail, and a first comment with more than 5 tags won't post.

The connection expired

Instagram ends app connections from time to time. Reconnect the account, then post again.

If an Instagram post failed or is not showing

Dripost stops a post Instagram would refuse before you schedule it, shows Instagram’s own error when it does refuse, like “9007 · Media ID is not available”, and lets you retry just Instagram.

If an Instagram video is not uploading

A video that will not upload is nearly always the file: Instagram takes MP4 or MOV, up to 300 MB for a Reel, and refuses codecs it cannot read. Re-export with H.264 video and AAC audio, then try again. A video can also sit in processing for a few minutes before the post appears.

Instagram post failed: why uploads fail and what to try next

When an Instagram upload fails, work through the basics in order: update the app, check the connection, try the web, then report the problem with details. For scheduled posts, Dripost tells you why.

Update and reconnect. Instagram's help says to update the app to the latest version on iOS or Android, and to check that your connection is stable, ideally Wi-Fi.

Try another way in. The same page suggests using Instagram in a mobile browser or at instagram.com, and Android users can try Instagram Lite. If the post goes through there, the original app is the likely cause.

Report the problem. From the app you can shake your phone, or go to your profile, Menu, Help and Report a Problem. Instagram asks for the device, what you were doing and a screenshot or video, and you can choose to include logs and diagnostics.

Instagram post not showing: causes, checks and how to confirm it is live

When an Instagram post seems missing, first work out whether it never went out or went out and you cannot see it. Instagram's help lists the app checks; Dripost settles the first question.

Check the app itself. Instagram's help page says to update the app first: since May 2022 some older versions are no longer supported. Then check your internet connection, preferably on Wi-Fi.

Look on the web, not just the app. Open your profile on instagram.com. If the post appears there, the post exists and the issue is on your phone. If it does not, the upload did not complete.

Report it with details. If it is still wrong after updating, Instagram lets you report a technical problem from the app, either by shaking the phone or from Help in the menu. It asks you to say what phone you use, what you were doing and to add a screenshot.

Instagram video not uploading: what to check first

When an Instagram video is refused, the file is usually the cause. Go down this list in order; most fixes are a re-export.

Is the account professional?. Posting a video as a Reel through a tool needs a Business or Creator account. A personal account will fail however good the file is.

Container and codecs. It must be MOV or MP4, with the moov atom at the start of the file and no edit lists. A video from some editors puts the moov atom at the end; re-exporting with “fast start” or “web optimised” moves it.

Numbers: size, length, frames. No more than 300 MB, between 3 seconds and 15 minutes, 23 to 60 frames per second, and no wider than 1920 pixels.

    Questions

Why is my post stuck on “posting” in the app?

Usually a slow or dropped connection during upload. Wait on a stable connection, or post from a scheduler that uploads from its own servers.

Why is my Instagram post not showing on my profile?

It may still be processing, or Instagram refused it and the scheduler has told you why. Open the post in Dripost to see the platform’s own reason, then fix it and retry.

Why does my Instagram upload keep failing?

Instagram's help points first to an out-of-date app and a weak connection. If neither applies, report the problem with details.

    Does Retry post it twice?

No. Retry only re-sends the platform that failed.

Is the post gone if I cannot see it in the app?

Not necessarily. Check your profile on instagram.com first.

Will Dripost post it twice to be safe?

No. Each post goes to each platform once, and if Dripost is unsure it asks you.

Why won’t my video upload to Instagram?

Check the account is Business or Creator, then the file: MP4 or MOV, H.264 or HEVC, 300 MB or less, 3 seconds to 15 minutes.

    What is a moov atom?

Metadata that tells a player how to read the video. Instagram wants it at the front of the file; export with fast start enabled.
