LinkedIn API: posting with the Posts API and its permissions
The Posts endpoint of the API from LinkedIn creates a post with one POST to /rest/posts, and which permission you hold decides whether it can go out as a person or as a company page.
The API from LinkedIn: who the post comes from
w_member_social lets an app post on behalf of an authenticated member. w_organization_social lets it post for an organization, and only where that member holds a page role such as ADMINISTRATOR or CONTENT_ADMIN.
Reading posts back is a separate matter: r_member_social is marked restricted and available to approved users only.
What a request looks like
Every call needs a Linkedin-Version header in YYYYMM form and X-Restli-Protocol-Version set to 2.0.0. The body carries an author URN, the commentary text, a visibility and a lifecycleState.
A good response is 201, and the new post’s ID comes back in the x-restli-id header, not in the body.
Images and video take extra steps
A post with an image or video can’t be sent in one call. You upload the asset first through the Images or Videos API and put the URN you get back into the post.
What the Posts API covers
The documentation’s table lists text, images, videos, documents, articles, multi-image posts, polls and celebrations as available for organic posts. Organic carousels are listed as not supported.
With Dripost
Dripost’s API (dripost.com/docs/api) posts to a LinkedIn personal profile. You connect the profile once and call one endpoint, so the headers, URNs and upload steps above are Dripost’s job.
Company pages are not in Dripost’s list, so if you must post as an organization, the Posts API route above is the one that covers it.
API pricing and access on LinkedIn
LinkedIn publishes no list of API pricing. Access to its marketing and community management APIs comes through partner programs that LinkedIn approves, and the API cost on LinkedIn is mostly that review and the development time.
The Sales Navigator API at LinkedIn is not open to every developer: it is offered to partners in LinkedIn's Sales Navigator Application Platform program. For posting, Dripost uses LinkedIn's sign-in and posting permissions, which you approve when you connect.
