Social Media Audit: A Five-Step Check of Your Accounts
An audit of your social media is a one-afternoon review of every account you have: what is there, what works and what to drop. This guide gives five steps and a short checklist you can reuse each quarter.
Run an audit of your social media in five steps
List every account, including old ones and ones you forgot. Check each profile for the same name, picture and bio. Review the last three months of posts and mark the best and worst. Check who has access and which passwords are weak. Then decide what to keep, fix or close.
What to check on each profile
Is the name, handle and picture the same everywhere? Does the bio say what you do and where to go next? Is the link current? Is anything out of date, such as an old offer or a closed shop?
Review your posts
Open each platform's own insights and sort the last quarter's posts by reach or views. Note what the best have in common, such as format, topic or opening line, and what the worst share. Keep to what the platforms report, and leave out numbers they do not give.
Check security and access
Turn on two-step sign-in, remove people who no longer work with you and make sure at least two trusted people can reach each account. In Dripost, roles let you give a teammate only the access they need.
Decide and write it down
Choose one platform to grow, one to maintain and any to close. Write down three actions and a date to review again. A short list you finish beats a long one you drop.
Questions
How often should I audit my social media?
Every three to six months is enough for most small teams, and after any big change such as a rebrand.
Do I need a tool for an audit?
No. A spreadsheet and each platform's insights are enough. Dripost's calendar and reports can help you see what went out.
What should an audit include?
Accounts, profile consistency, post performance, access and security, and a short list of actions.
