Link in Bio: What It Is and How to Add One

On most platforms captions do not link out, so a profile carries one clickable web address: the bio link. This guide shows how to add one on Instagram, what to put behind it and how to share a YouTube link there.

Why a bio link exists

Instagram captions cannot hold a tappable link, so the profile carries one place to click. Everything you want people to reach, from a shop to a video, has to go through it.

How to add a link to your Instagram bio

Open your profile, tap Edit profile, choose Links, then Add external link and paste the address. Instagram lets you add more than one link, and the limit has changed, so check Edit profile for how many your account can show.

Test it by opening your profile in a private window and tapping the link.

One link or a bio link page

If you have one goal, link straight to it. If you have several, a bio link page lists them in one place, which is the idea behind searches like biolink Instagram. Pick a page that loads fast on a phone and shows your most important link first.

Dripost does not build link pages. It schedules the post and shows you the live link after it goes out.

Change the link when the post changes

A caption that points to your profile link sends people there, so the link should match the post. Update it when you promote something new, and note the date so you remember to change it back.

Questions

How to add a YouTube link in an Instagram bio?

Copy the address of your video or channel from YouTube, then paste it in Edit profile, under Links, and save. The link shows on your profile under your bio.

Can I put a link in my Instagram caption?

You can type one, but it will not be tappable. That is why captions point to your profile.

Do other platforms have a profile link?

Most do. YouTube has links in the channel and description, X and Threads have a profile link, and LinkedIn has a website field. Facebook Pages show a website under About.
