How to Reset Your Instagram Algorithm: What Works

You can reset the Instagram algorithm, in part: Instagram offers a way to clear its suggestions, and what you tap afterwards teaches it again. This guide covers the setting, the manual steps and what to expect.

How to reset the Instagram algorithm in settings

Instagram has a Reset suggested content option. In the app, open Settings, look for Content preferences and choose it. It clears recommendations on Explore, Reels and suggested posts, so they start fresh from what you do next.

If you cannot find it, update the app, since the menu moves and not every account gets a feature at once.

Retrain the feed by hand

Tap Not interested on a suggestion you do not want. Mute or unfollow accounts that clutter your feed. Search for the topics you do want, and watch a few to the end. Clearing your search history helps.

How long a fresh start takes

Expect a few days of using the app before the suggestions settle, and a couple of weeks for a clear change. Nobody outside Instagram can say exactly how its ranking works, so treat any promise of an exact number as a guess.

If you post as well

Resetting your own feed does not change who sees your posts. What your followers see depends on what they watch. Post at steady times and in a clear topic, and your audience learns what to expect from you.

    Questions

How do I reset my Instagram algorithm?

Use Reset suggested content in Settings, under Content preferences, if your app has it. Then tap Not interested, mute and search for the topics you want.

Does resetting delete my account or posts?

No. It only clears the suggestions you see. Your followers, posts and messages stay.

Is there a way to reset the algorithm for what others see?

No. Reach for your posts depends on how people respond to them, and you cannot reset it.
