Instagram Music: How to Add Music to Posts and Stories

Music on Instagram works in a few places: Stories, Reels and photo posts, each with its own button. This guide shows where to find the music option in each, why some songs are missing and what to do for a scheduled post.

Add music to an Instagram Story

Create your Story, tap the sticker icon and choose Music. Search a song or browse, pick the part that plays and place the sticker. You can show the lyrics or the song name. Choose songs for an Instagram story that match the mood of the photo, and keep the sticker clear of faces.

Add music to a Reel

In the Reels camera, tap the music note, pick a song or an audio clip and record. You can also add audio after you record, in the editing screen.

Add music to a photo post

When you create a feed post with photos, look for the Add music option on the screen before you share. Pick a song and the part you want. It is how many people add songs for Instagram posts without making a video.

Why a song is missing

Instagram's music library depends on licences, and business accounts often see a smaller library than personal accounts. If a song is missing, try an original audio clip or a track from a royalty-free library.

Music and scheduled posts

Instagram's licensed songs are added inside the app. A scheduled post cannot pick from that library, so if you schedule a Reel with Dripost, add the music to the video file first, using music you have the right to use.
