Italic font generator: italic text for any post.

Most apps have no italic button in a post box. This generator gives you italic as a font: italic text, italic sans and bold italic to copy and paste into LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Threads, Facebook and YouTube. It runs in your browser.

When to use italics as a font in a post

  • Emphasis, not paragraphs

Italics suit a single word of emphasis, a title or a quoted phrase. A whole italic paragraph is harder to read.

  • LinkedIn

LinkedIn posts have no italic button, so styled text is the way to get one. Keep it to a phrase.

  • X and Threads

Both accept it. X counts each italic letter as two characters, so plan for about 140 letters in 280.

  • Instagram, YouTube and Facebook

Captions, descriptions and posts accept it. YouTube titles can hold it too, within the 100-character limit.

Italic text by use

Each version has a job.

  • Italic for titles

Book titles, film names and quoted phrases are the classic use.

  • Italic sans for clean lines

It keeps the lean without serifs, which suits a modern feed.

  • Bold italic for the punch line

It is the loudest style here, so use it once per post.

Questions

How do I write in italics on LinkedIn or Instagram?

Type your text above, copy the italic row, and paste it into your post. Neither app has an italic button in a normal post box.

What is the difference between italic and italic sans?

Italic is the serif style, with small strokes on the letters. Italic sans has no strokes, and looks cleaner on a phone.

Is there a serif version, and a name for each look?

Yes. The serif row is the serif version, the sans row is the sans one, and each row is labelled with the name of its italic font style so you can tell them apart.

Is italic text the same as an italic text generator for Word?

No. In Word, use its own italic button. This tool makes text you can paste into a post box.

Why does the letter h look different in italic?

Unicode borrowed one italic letter from another block, so the h can look slightly different from the rest. It is normal and harmless.

Are these real fonts?

No. They are Unicode letters that look like another font, which is why they paste into any text box without installing anything. They do not change the font of a Word document, a design or a website.

Does the font generator do serif italic too?

Yes. The plain Italic style is a serif italic, with small feet on the letters; Italic sans is the same slant without them. Both paste into most apps.
