Instagram's limit, explained
The limit
A caption holds up to 2,200 characters.
How Instagram counts
Instagram counts every character as written, links included.
The fold
The feed shows about the first 125 characters, or two lines, then hides the rest behind "more".
Worth knowing
Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags on a post or Reel (30 until December 2025).
Profile fields
Your bio can be up to 150 characters. Usernames use letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so styled letters won't work in a username.

Questions
Do hashtags count toward Instagram's 2,200?
Yes, every character counts, hashtags included. Separately, Instagram allows up to 5 hashtags on a post.
How much of my caption shows in the feed?
About the first 125 characters or two lines, then "more". The counter tells you when you pass that point.
Does Dripost count Instagram posts the same way?
Yes, the same Instagram rules it checks before publishing.
How long can an Instagram bio be?
150 characters. Styled letters are fine there, but not in your username, which takes only plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores.
Do links count toward the limit?
Yes. A link costs its full length on Instagram, so a long address eats into the 2,200.
How many hashtags can a post have?
Up to 5 on a post or Reel. The limit was 30 until December 2025.
